Everything old is new again

There is far too much to talk about, and too little time to catalog all the fuckwaddery happening in Congress and the GOP primary race. It's far too exhausting. I'll say this, though. I was kinda sorta hoping that Bachmann would get the nomination, thus freeing up President Obama to run the country instead of a re-election campaign. Oh well.

Anyway, just a quick thought for the day coming up.

As I was sitting there listening to the "fake" news last night, I noted to my husband that all the things the GOP is trying to do: no business or health regulation, no gun control, no choice for women, no contraception (Hello, Santorum!), outlawing LGBT rights, no mandatory education (Hello, NH!), doing away with child labor laws, no help for the poor and underserved...

The thing is... these things have all been done before. In fact, it's the way we started out. And we came to realize as the industrial revolution hit and as our society evolved that these things don't work for us. And laws and regulations were created over the years to adapt to our changing society.

So... what I'd like the GOP to tell me is why they think they'll work now, when historically they have been disasters?

I guess that saying is true... everything old is new again.

  1. The Grand Old Party is trying to take us back to the Good Old Days, when women and minorities knew their place, and rich, white men were free to revel in their rich whiteness.

I'd kinda like to know how they expect to stay rich, though, when their workforce is dying of entirely treatable diseases and doesn't have the basic education to do the work, anyway.
